Professional Event Services is proud to present Grand Prix Cincinnati 2014!

Grand Prix Cincinnati is open to the public and all players are invited to come and participate. Grand Prix Cincinnati is a two-day event featuring the Standard format. In addition to the main event, the Grand Prix Cincinnati weekend offers one of the largest schedules of public events ever brought to a Grand Prix — including an opportunity to win a VIP trip to Seattle in 2015! Public Events and Last-Chance Grand Prix Trials will be held Friday, March 21 on-site starting at noon.

Prominent Magic artist Steve Prescott has designed a playmat to commemorate the event. The playmat will be offered free to the first 600 players who register for Grand Prix Cincinnati on-site Friday. The playmat will also be offered to any player who purchases the Grand Prix Cincinnati VIP registration package.

Main Event Information

Format - Standard Constructed

The format for this event will be Standard Constructed. Constructed decks must contain a minimum of sixty cards. There is no maximum deck size; however, you must be able to shuffle your deck with no assistance. If a player wishes to use a sideboard, it must contain no more than fifteen cards.

With the exception of basic land cards, a player’s combined deck and sideboard may not contain more than four of any individual card, counted by its English card title equivalent. All cards named Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest are basic.

Deck lists are required for this event. It is strongly recommended that you fill out a decklist before you arrive at the event. Decklists can be found here.

Official information about formats can be found in the Magic: The Gathering Floor Rules.

Structure

Saturday: 9 Rounds will be played, with Modified Swiss-style pairing. All rounds will be 50 minutes long, with each match being Best 2 of 3. After the Swiss rounds, all players who end the day with a 7-2 record (21 points) or better will advance to compete on Sunday.

Sunday: 6 Rounds will be played, resulting in a cut to the Top 8.

Top 8: In the single-elimination rounds, each match will be Best 2 of 3 and have no time limit.

Where necessary, the standings after the Swiss rounds will still be used to determine final order in the standings.

Notes

  • Please watch your possessions.
Do not leave your items unattended. Professional Event Services, LLC, its partners and venues are not responsible for lost or stolen materials. You bring materials at your own risk.
  • Trading is fine.
However, anyone attending the event that buys, sells or solicits other players to do either will be asked to leave the event without refund. Note that offering items such as iPods or PSPs is the same as a cash transaction. This applies to both the buyer and the seller. Professional Event Services, LLC, its partners and venues are not responsible for any "bad" trades nor will we offer any trade advice. Your trades are your own risk.
  • Sportsmanship is very important.
Professional Event Services, LLC greatly values sportsmanship. Poor sportsmanship can lead to warnings, game losses, match losses and disqualification from the tournament. Poor sportsmanship includes trying to trick another player, lying, arguing with an official as well as most other forms of bad behavior. Poor sportsmanship impacts all attendees to the event and reflects poorly on you. At all time, treat other players like you would want to be treated.
  • You do not lose your cards when you play in tournaments.
You always keep your own cards at the conclusion of a tournament. You do not lose them to other players for any reason.
  • We accept cash (only) for payment for events. We only accept cash of the country the event is held in.
  • Be on time for the start of your tournaments and for the start of each round.
In order to get everyone out on time, we need to start as soon as possible. If you are late for a tournament or a round, you may be dropped from the tournament.
  • All Universal Tournament Rules and Magic: The Gathering Floor Rules are in effect for this event unless specifically overruled by information in this Format Document
  • Swiss Format? What's that?
There are two main formats for tournaments - single elimination and Swiss. In single elimination when a player loses a match, they are eliminated from the tournament. Booster Drafts are an example of single elimination tournaments. In a Swiss format event, players are not eliminated from the tournament and will be paired for the next round regardless of whether they won or lost their last match. You can play every round of a Swiss format tournament no matter what your record is.
  • Questions? Ask them!
We love questions! If you have a question, please ask an event official (in either the brightly colored staff shirt or the black judge shirt) and we will do our best to answer your question.
  • Players must bring pen, paper, card sleeves and appropriate counters.
